It`s not surprising that for each of us, our individual self is struggling to find calm, peace, and balance!

In my country Australia we see and feel the effects of all of these world tremors and quakes!  No matter where you live these ongoing chaotic world disturbances add to our existing fears.

We continue to have community problems that rumble and destroy our individual fabric of wellbeing! Pressures of racial inequities, power inequities – abuse of women, girls, and minority groups -race, gender, sex, and more.

Why are those who have the power not fighting the good fight for Safety, Respect and Equity for ALL! … and in turn creating a democracy of enduring calmness and peace!

It`s no wonder fear, anxiety, depression, and panic are in such epidemic proportions!

How might I offer some support to those who are in need? I searched carefully online for options that may offer solutions for people.

…..   Eliminate Anxiety and Panic Attacks For Good!

The following article is the first in a series I`ll offer you over the next period of time. Here you can have a comfortable read about how you might recover greater emotional, mental, and whole of being good health!  I wish you a good read.

(Source: American Psychiatric Association. Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition, Text Revision (DSM-IV-TR) 2000 Washington, DC.)

…then you’ve experienced firsthand some of the possible symptoms of a panic or anxiety attack. If you are reading this page because a loved one suffers from these symptoms and you are trying to understand or help, it’s hard to appreciate what they go through.

Just try to imagine what it feels like to experience one if you can?

…. regain health …

Here is a typical example:

Standing in a supermarket queue, it’s been a long wait but only one customer to go before you make it to the cashier. Wait, what was that sensation? An unpleasant feeling forms in your throat, your chest feels tighter, now a sudden shortness of breath, and what do you know—your heart skips a beat. “Please, God, not here.”

A quick scan of the territory—is it threatening?  Four unfriendly faces queue behind, one person in front.

Pins and needles seem to prick you through your left arm, you feel slightly dizzy, and then the explosion of fear as you dread the worst.     You are about to have a panic attack.

There is no doubt in your mind now that this is going to be a big one.

Eliminate Anxiety and Panic Attacks!

Okay, focus 1:  Remember what you have been taught, and it is time now to apply the coping techniques. Begin the deep breathing exercise your doctor recommended. In through the nose, out through the mouth.

Think relaxing thoughts, and again, while breathing in, think “Relax,” and then breathe out. But it doesn’t seem to be having any positive effect; in fact, just concentrating on breathing is making you feel self-conscious and more uptight.

–>>> apply the coping techniques!

Okay, coping technique 2:

  • Gradual muscle relaxation. Tense both shoulders, hold for 10 seconds, then release.
  • Try it again. No; still no difference.
  • The anxiety is getting worse and the very fact that you are out of coping techniques worsens your panic.
  • If only you were surrounded by your family, or a close friend were beside you so you could feel more confident in dealing with this situation.

Now, the adrenaline is really pumping through your system, your body is tingling with uncomfortable sensations, and now the dreaded feeling of losing complete control engulfs your emotions.

No one around you has any idea of the sheer terror you are experiencing.

For them, it’s just a regular day and another frustratingly slow queue in the supermarket.

Eliminate Anxiety and Panic Attacks and find relief!

You are out of options … -> Time for Plan C.

The most basic coping skill of all is “fleeing.” Excuse yourself from the queue; you are slightly embarrassed as it is now that it is your turn to pay.

The cashier is looking bewildered as you leave your shopping behind and stroll towards the door. There is no time for excuses—you need to be alone.

You leave the supermarket and get into your car to ride it out alone. Could this be the big one? The one you fear will push you over the edge mentally and physically.

Ten minutes later the panic subsides.

It’s 10:30 a.m. How are you going to make it through the rest of the day?

.. take comfort in the fact that you are by no means alone.

If you suffer from panic or anxiety attacks, the above scenario probably sounds very familiar.

It may have even induced feelings of anxiety and panic just reading it.

The particular situations that trigger your panic and anxiety may differ; maybe the bodily sensations are a little different. Or maybe it happened to you for the first time on a plane, in the dentist’s chair, or even at home, while doing nothing in particular.

If you have ever had what has become known as a “panic attack,” take comfort in the fact that you are by no means alone.

Eliminate Anxiety and Panic Attacks!

A panic attack always comes with an acute sense of impending doom.

You feel you are either about to lose your mind or … one of your vital bodily functions is about to cease functioning and you will end your days right there among the canned goods and frozen food.

You are by no means alone; you’re not even one in a million.

In America, it is estimated that almost 5% of the population suffers from some form of anxiety disorder.

For some, it may be the infrequent panic attacks that only crop up in particular situations-like when having to speak in front of others, while, for other people, it can be so frequent and recurring that it inhibits them from leaving their home.

Frequent panic attacks often develop into what medical physicians refer to as an “anxiety disorder.”

Eliminate Anxiety & Panic Attacks for Good …

and Find Relief!

You know the saying that “what you resist, persists.”

Well, that saying applies perfectly to fear. If you resist a situation out of fear, the fear around that issue will persist.

How do you stop resisting–you move directly into it, into the path of the anxiety, and by doing so it cannot persist.

  • In essence what this means is that if you daily voluntarily seek to have a panic attack, you cannot have one.
  • Try in this very moment to have a panic attack and I will guarantee you cannot.
  • You may not realize it but you have always decided to panic. You make the choice by saying this is beyond my control.

Another way to appreciate this is to imagine having a panic attack as like standing on a cliff’s edge. The anxiety seemingly pushes you closer to falling over the edge.

  • To be rid of the fear you must metaphorically jump.
  • You must jump off the cliff edge and into the anxiety and fear and all the things that you fear most.
  • How do you jump?
  • You jump by wanting to have a panic attack.
  • You go about your day asking for anxiety and panic attacks to appear.
  • Your real safety is the fact that a panic attack will never harm you.
  • That is a medical fact.

You are safe, the sensations are wild but no harm will come to you. Your heart is racing but no harm will come to you. The jump becomes nothing more than a two-foot drop! Perfectly safe.

Focus On Social Influence and Word-of-Mouth Marketing To Create Virality! https://smallbusinesschronicles.com/focus-on-social-influence-and-word-of-mouth-marketing-to-create-virality/ Fri, 09 Apr 2021 04:47:47 +0000 https://smallbusinesschronicles.com/?p=4121 What if we could use research in a way that helps us understand how things go viral – yes, marketing to create virality!

Standing out in today’s market is harder than ever as advertising clutter projects 5,000 – 120,000 ads and brands that confront consumers every day.

Without a clear strategic plan, it’s easy to spend many marketing dollars on methods that may well miss the mark and not have the desired impact every time.

Traditional marketing suggests that quality, price, and advertising are the critical factors to determine a product or idea’s ability to achieve success or popularity. But how relevant is this pathway today?

The Little Video/Book Review in brief…

>>> Know how to use marketing to create virality.

By Jonah Berger (Professor of Marketing at The Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania) his book “Contagious – Why Things Catch On” distills years of research into understanding why certain ads, products, YouTube videos, political movements, songs, and/or restaurants catch on — while others are ignored.

Random first slide

Jonah writes to inform us of why things catch on.  All of us see much about how things going “viral”. It`s about social media -yes, but he goes deeper than just the social media aspect of contagiousness.

Professor Berger provides an easy-to-follow acronym for outlining what items can help something catch on.

This acronym is “STEPPS” and the little video/book is divided into 6 chapters describing each of the elements.

The acronym for “Contagious -Why Things Catch On” —-   ‘STEPPS’  is as follows:

  1. Social Currency – Being “in the know” and wanting to share it with others.
  2. Triggers – How one thing will instantly trigger a thought of something else.
  3. Emotion – When something inspires us and evokes emotion, we are often inspired to share. Some feelings are more prone to sharing like humor, awe, excitement, and on the negative side, anger and anxiety.
  4. Public – Summed up as social proof. Two restaurants with the same cuisine and one has a line out the door and the other one is practically empty. Where would you like to dine?
  5. Practical Value – Information that is useful and of value for money is far more likely to be shared.
  6. Stories – When a good story is told, it will often suck us in, evoke emotion, and prompt us to want to share.

Jonah Berger explains that “regardless of how plain or boring a product or idea may seem, there are ways to make it contagious…”, ie to better ensure how to use marketing to create virality… if you know the right way to do it.

The most effective and prosperous ideas about marketing to create virality … contagiousness, have been empowered and supported by one or more of the 6 STEPPS in some way.

Marketing to create virality is about leveraging good stories that are useful, engaging, and that drive value will help you and your product or service increase social influence and word-of-mouth transmission and propel it to be the next big thing.

>>>  Click Here to see the Little Video/Book

And Berger argues that social influence and word-of-mouth transmission are far more essential to drive “virality,” and ultimately account for 20-50% of all purchasing decisions.

In fact, “word-of-mouth,” he explains, is effective because it is more persuasive … people trust what others tell them much more than they trust ads they see on T.V.

In fact, “word-of-mouth,” he explains, is effective and more targeted … people share stories with those who are actually interested in the topic.

Question for you:

Are you one of the many owners, whether you be in small, medium, or large businesses, whether you are a CEO, in marketers, an entrepreneur… all of us spend excessive time and resources to explore new ways to fuel buzz around our latest products, services, advertisements, campaigns, or causes – and — we all want success?

Want to know more (and don’t want to read just another book), tune in to Bergers Little Video/Book… such an easy way to understand more about marketing and how to virality!!

What people are saying about …

“Contagious — Why Things Catch On” … Marketing To Create Virality!

Dave Albin … Having visuals for these chapters raises your awareness and plants the pictures in your mind and locks them into your memory. I read the book twice and have also listened on audio, however watching the video still increased my retention. Bravo Jonah!!
Ed Barr …  You just changed the nature of learning for me.
Bob Dunbar… Cool, entertaining, engaging, and memorable presentation that is practical.
Anthony Ambriz …  This was incredible! Having read the book and listened to it on audio as well. Seeing it in a video format was super helpful as a refresher and as a way to get someone interested in the book.

Thank you, Dr. Jonah Berger, for this great research and for making it so available to people.

Leadership Must Haves In Covid 2021 https://smallbusinesschronicles.com/leadership-must-haves-in-covid-2021/ Fri, 26 Mar 2021 01:57:38 +0000 https://smallbusinesschronicles.com/?p=3976

What?  Why? How? When? Who? … I ask – ‘What are some top-rating guiding principles that create ‘Leadership Ideas For Great Business Goal Setting’!

Here is a mix of ideas to set up the best goal-setting – from six outstanding leaders. This is a compelling mix of ideas from a philosophical, wisdom-based, and action-oriented set of beliefs and theories.

We are moving through the 2021 year; Covid19 is still with us and likely will be for some time yet?

If ever there was a perfect time for each of us to ‘create a new world’, it is now? Let`s start with this question…

‘How happy, how calm, how content are you?’  How content and fulfilled is your staff, your community, your family? How well are they managing themselves, in their work and in their day-to-day living in this Covid19 threatening world?

Lets set up a focus around ‘happiness’, it seems to me, this is a perfect starting point to reflect and restate goals and ambitions!

Some years back I was lucky enough to attend a 4-day conference in Sydney, titled ‘Happiness And Its Causes’.  Some participants thought the title of the conference to be somewhat strange; yet the presentations and content from world leaders in their field, over those days, was simply brilliant!

Seems to me this title, ‘Happiness And It`s Causes’ is a headline management keyword and focus so perfectly relevant for today?

I propose that leaders have an extra responsibility in these Covid19 days, to monitor and manage people differently and better and have a specific focus on stress, anxiety, wellbeing, and … to create measures of happiness.

Leaders need to construct new policies and strategies… let`s stand back, let`s have new eyes and a new and enhanced perspective about happiness!

  • Ask about contentment!
  • Ask about ability in managing stress and anxiety!
  • Make more time to monitor overall wellbeing both incidentally and structured.

I believe in the development of new extra skills and enhancement of existing management skills. These need to be loaded into everyones` leadership briefcase… ie greater and different structures – build in a reflection of existing goals and strategies, and those hugely important people management strategies.

Now there is so much more to consider.

It`s about all of these things…

Let`s see what my chosen leaders have to offer…  Dan Sullivan, Martine Seligman, Brian P. Moran, and Michael LenningtonDr. Wayne W. Dyer, and Matthieu Ricard.

Dan Sullivan, Master Coach of Business Entrepreneurs, penned the following question to members of one of his mastermind groups. Actions are needed.

Dan`s question …
“If we were having this discussion three years from today, and you were looking back over those three years, what has to have happened in your life, both personally and professionally, for you to feel happy with your progress?”

“The 12 Week Year”, New York Times Bestseller by Brian P. Moran and Michael Lennington, presents a process, forged in the field of working with top athletes, transformed into the business world.

‘The 12 Week Year’ incorporates the proven disciplines and principles of effective execution into the context of 12-week execution cycles. It’s about taking back control of your day, increasing your income, and accomplishing your goals in record time. If you had followed their system you would now be at the end of your first of four twelve-week blocks.

Matthieu Ricard is a Buddhist monk and French emissary to the Dalai Lama.  His book, “Happiness – A Guide To Developing Life`s Most Important Skill”.  Simply, he states happiness is surely everyone’s life ambition, irrespective of how we each earn our money?

Matthieu was a keynote speaker at the four-day Sydney conference. He expertly combines his talents as a philosopher and a scientist and elicits a rigorous and compelling analysis of his subject.

He reminds us that as we change as individuals, we ultimately change the world! Surely a very good idea?

“It`s a brilliant synthesis of twenty-five centuries of the wisdom of Buddhism, with the neuroscience and cognitive psychology of the twenty-first century.

“Matthieu Ricard, who embodies both traditions of Buddhism and contemporary living, gives humanity a gift it desperately needs now: a vision of a positive human future”.

Martin Seligman, author of ‘Authentic Happiness is a very strong promoter within the scientific and education communities of his theories of positive psychology and of well-being. His theory of “learned helplessness” is popular among scientific and clinical psychologists.  Books:  Learned Optimism, Flourish, and 15 more

Dr.Wayne W. Dyer says simply “You are the sum total of all the choices up until this moment.”

Leadership Must Haves in Covid 2021.

I believe business owners can benefit by continually investing in new yet simple people management processes.

Daily Rituals To Enhance Your Life, Share With Your Friends https://smallbusinesschronicles.com/daily-rituals-to-enhance-your-life-share-with-your-friends/ Fri, 17 Jan 2020 03:01:45 +0000 http://smallbusinesschronicles.com/?p=3095 Nik Halik is affectionately known as “The Thrillionaire”. Enjoy his wisdom! Read his list of daily rituals.

Nik Halik`s list, “Daily Rituals To Enhance Your Life, Share With Your Friends”, makes the point that everything you do should be based on your own principles and values only.

It should not be a reflection or adherence to the perceived values of those people around you.

Of course, we all adapt what other people might like to suggest as daily rituals. Yet we do need to make them our own. Ask, question, understand others’ ideas!  Then make your own list!

I recently read something about what time to have the first coffee of the day. The suggestion was not the first thing when you get out of bed, rather a couple of hours later. I`m giving it a try. One change for me!

Here is Nik`s ist of ‘Daily Rituals To Share With Your Friends’.   Really great for one`s belief system!   It’s about ‘Pinnacle of life stuff’.

  1. Everything around you will always change, however, your character and your beliefs are something you can be grounded in.
  2. Go to sleep earlier as this will make it easier to wake up earlier. Remember nothing good comes after 2 am on Television.
  3. Establish a personal life mission statement for how you want to live your life.
  4. Live in a Feng Shui themed environment to energize you and neutralize any potential stress levels. This allows you to fuel the vision of your business and life.
  5. Practice meditation. Meditation is not about thinking of nothing. It helps build your awareness of your own thoughts and how you think about and treat others.
  6. Be proactive, not reactive. Remember, you have the ability to choose how you respond to certain events. It is always your decision to empower any negativity and invest your energies in things that bring you down.
  7. Be happy. Life is not about the pursuit of happiness. We often think that success will bring us happiness, but you need to be happy with yourself in order to be successful.
  8. Start your day by expressing gratitude for what you have. Giving thanks and appreciating what you have allows you to scan the world with a positive mindset to uncover opportunities.
  9. Remember 3-5 things you are grateful for each day and change up the daily list. You’ll tap a source of energy that empowers you.
  10. Smile…It bends the Universe. Even during the toughest of times, be positive.
  11. Smile your way through tough times. This lesson will serve you well. Smile and laugh. It’s the shock absorber and lubricant of your life.
  12. Every day should be a New Years Resolution.
  13. You are born to evolve and thrive on change in order to harness new energies and opportunities. Use this magical thinking.

Feeling anxious, angry or depressed at work and at home? https://smallbusinesschronicles.com/feeling-anxious-angry-or-depressed-at-work-and-at-home/ Thu, 10 Jan 2019 00:10:09 +0000 http://smallbusinesschronicles.com/?p=2811 Negative emotions such as anxiety, anger and depression increase markers of inflammation in our blood.

Low moods affect more than just our mental health, research suggests.

The researchers hope this will lead to new mental health treatments that ‘break the cycle’ of ‘inflammation, disability and disease’.

Low moods like depression can cause inflammation markers to rise in the body (stock)

The research was carried out by Pennsylvania State University and led by biobehavioural health researcher Dr Jennifer Graham-Engeland.

Mental health is one of the ‘main causes of the overall disease burden worldwide’, with one in six people in the UK experiencing a problem like depression or anxiety in the past week, according to the Mental Health Foundation.

Inflammation has been linked to everything from asthma and arthritis to heart disease and even cancer. But it’s role in mental health is less clear.

The underlying causes, as we know can be many, and I won`t make a list, I figure we all have a list!

It seems like this is a worldwide phenomenon, whether you live in Australia, USA, Europe, Asia or anywhere else.

It`s more about also understanding how to manage the effects.

Happiness Tips For Busy Small Business Owners https://smallbusinesschronicles.com/happiness-tips-for-busy-small-business-owners/ Thu, 25 Oct 2018 03:30:32 +0000 http://personaldevelopmentbuzz.com/?p=271 Stop Feeling Bad About Being Unhappy… its just about perspective. Here`s some happiness tips for busy small business owners.

Feeling glum, feeling down, feeling like crap, feeling anxious, depressed, guilty, shamed….

Life can be a bastard at times! And we just have to manage!

A previous Australian Prime Minister was once quoted, “Life wasn`t meant to be easy!”.   Who can trust a politician?  I say.

How we manage is the key. What have we got in our lives, the big stuff, the small stuff, the relationships, work, money …  Blah, blah, blah!!!

Worrying and stressing about being unhappy is probably not going to help rid you of the cause or the symptons!

Check out this ‘true story’ and see what you can get from it! And thanks to Tim Lott

44740875_m

I am going to come out of the closet, and make a shocking, even shameful, admission. I am not a happy person. In fact I am the sort of chap who complete strangers come up to in the street and advise to cheer up, since it might never happen.

I am not, I should emphasise, an unhappy person either. I love to laugh, and some of my novels have been admired as pretty good comedies. I think I am pretty much like most people, with moods that shift and transform. Sometimes I am happy, sometimes sad, most of the time I am pretty much neutral, with my mind elsewhere. Disappointment, fear and loss are as much a part of my life as achievement, hope and joy. It is all of a piece.

However this indeterminate state no longer seems to be socially acceptable. It is required of me, both implicitly and explicitly, that I remain in a state of continual near-explosion – passionate about this, excited about that, looking forward to something else. If not, I am antisocial, a grumpy old man. Worst of all I am a failure, because if I was a success, I would be happy. Neither am I a good person, since happiness has come to be seen as a moral end in itself.

This kind of happiness fascism is a relatively recent import from America. The British, not so long ago, were perfectly at ease with being hacked off. Moaning was once a pleasurable and acceptable pastime. No longer. Everything, as the (ironic) theme song of the Lego Movie insists, is Awesome.

Happiness, we are confidently assured, is the objective of life and it is something we “get” by working hard, shopping, playing and exercising, giving to charitable causes and taking part in the drama of late capitalism …….

Mindset, Mechanics, Money … Three Focus Points To Achieve Biz Success. https://smallbusinesschronicles.com/mindset-mechanics-money-three-focus-points-to-achieve-biz-success/ Thu, 20 Sep 2018 01:55:27 +0000 http://smallbusinesschronicles.com/?p=2118

What are the three things that we need to focus on when we build a business?  Hard question! But there are hundreds of things that need attention, I hear you say.  My top 3 are “Mindset, Mechanics and Money… Three focus points to achieve business success”

In brief, let`s look at just one aspect of ‘MINDSET’?     Lets look at “Obsession”.

Obsession by definition is … and you take your pick. What does obsession mean to you?

  • compulsion
  • delusion
  • enthusiasm
  • fascination
  • infatuation
  • mania
  • passion
  • phobia
  • preoccupation
  • attraction
  • case
  • complex
  • craze
  • crush
  • fancy
  • fetish

Obsession towards Success

Who do we all know who has this mindset?  … ‘obsession’

“Obsession” —  Whether it be Elon Musk, Steve Jobs, Richard Branson, Bill Gates or other hugely successful luminaries.  Their almost 24 hour a day attention to achieving their ‘big hairy audacious goal’ has been observed and talked about so much. WE know their names, their businesses and we are ‘green and admire’ their stuff.

‘Mindset, Mechanics, Money’…. we need and want all 3!

Their mindset is not willing to let go until success is achieved. Failure after failure after failure …. then SUCCESS!   Gutsy isn`t it.   I`d like a bit more of that energy!!

How about you, what do you consider when you see or read about their successes?

I was really motivated to share this with you, after I read an article by a colleague and alliance member of mine;  David Scott Lofthouse`s. (The link to his whole article is below.  And I thank him for the permission to share this with you).

Here is a brief exert …..

Steve Jobs was legendary for it. Elon Musk nearly went broke for it. Jeff Bezos practically owns the Internet because of it.

What does it take to make a huge mark in the world of business or technology? To join the ranks of Elon Musk or Richard Branson? What quality is required to ride out the losses and setbacks and accomplish what you are trying to accomplish?

There are countless articles on the Internet that talk about the “habits of highly effective people” or the common denominator of all billionaires. This article isn’t about a set of habits.

If you have a desire to be that class of entrepreneur, you will know after reading this article that there is no “how-to” answer on the Internet or anywhere else. It’s simpler (and a whole lot harder) than that.

  • Again thanks to David Lofthouse for allowing me to publish this.
  • See link to full article below!

NB: David and I are members of ‘The Online Alliance’.  We are a community of supporting entrepreneurs.  We work together in numerous ways to help all in the Alliance become more successful in our own independent businesses.

More Daily Rituals To Share With Your Friends https://smallbusinesschronicles.com/more-daily-rituals-to-share-with-your-friends/ Tue, 27 Feb 2018 04:41:55 +0000 http://smallbusinesschronicles.com/?p=1923 Here is the second and final part of Nik Halik`s list. “More Daily Rituals To Share With Your Friends”. Nik makes the point that everything should be based on your own principles and values, not around other people.

Of course we all adapt what other people might like to suggest as daily rituals. We do need to make them our own. I recently read something about what time to have the first coffee of the day. The suggestion was not first thing when you get out of bed, rather a couple of hours later. I`m giving it a try.

So here is Nik`s continued list of ‘More Daily Rituals To Share With Your Friends’.   All really great for one`s belief System!   Its about ‘Pinnacle of life stuff’.

  1. Everything around you will always change, however your character and your beliefs are something you can be grounded in.
  2. Go to sleep earlier as this will make it easier to wake up earlier. Remember nothing good comes after 2 am on Television.
  3. Establish a personal life mission statement for how you want to live your life.
  4. Live in a Feng Shui themed environment to energise you and neutralise any potential stress levels.
